Add quoting messages

i am curious – how do you envision “quoting messages” would work at UI-level?

Maybe it could work this way:

DC hide quoted text of regular mails.
So it can detected (maybe by the “>”).

So now you could show this text in the top of the message simmilar how it shown in the attached screenshot.

If a DC user tab te butten “quote” it could added the qouted message behind the regular text.

Example for the sendet message shown in a regular mail client:

And this message should be shown in DC similar as in this screenshot

I would add a header anyways so you can click on the quote and then jump to the quoted message.

Hello, It would be nice if there is a possibility to respond to (older) messages like whatsapp and telegram does. have to say I would like to be able to quote(partially or full) (what you name “advanced message forwarding”) I think it is an useful feature. +1 About the stickers: since email have a cost to me, I would prefer stickers themes like in Pidgin where a text like :sticker-name: is sent and the app replace it for the proper sticker, this “:sticker-name:” could be sent as a link to the actual sticker hosted somewhere so users not using Delta Chat can see it, and it stay compatible with other MUA. …

Quoting is available on Android since 1.14.x and will be added to Desktop and iOS soon.

Until now it is unfortunately not possible to quote text-parts, only a whole post can be quoted

• The ui for this is not easy to implement on all 3 platforms. (option on selecting some text I assume)
• a message can only contain one quote
• deltachat is a bit different to email in that you normally write short messages, unlike in email where you basically write full letters.
