Private notes for contacts

Delta Chat already has the ability to set custom nicknames for contacts, but sometimes you want to remember more information about a contact.

It could be useful for many things:

  • like remembering where you know the contact from
  • or it could be even used as some kind of mini CRM (customer relations management) tool: if you run your business over Delta Chat to remember what you discussed with each customer (and with multi device those notes would even be synced with your team members if you share one account).

Discord and Telegram have the ability to save a private note on your contacts.

This could be implemented in delta chat using the existing multi device sync feature.

Free-form notes sound useful and fairly easy to implement. Making them searchable would add even more utility.

Being able to tag contacts, and filter by tags, might also be useful. One contact might be tagged “work, chess club, engineer”, and another “toastmasters, synagogue, IT, school carpool”. And if “structural engineer” could be a subtag of “engineer”, and “school carpool” a subtag of “has kids”, that would be handy!

Tags could maybe even be used for this usecase described by @FrankLanger.

That sounds good.
Additional information about the contact could be helpful for leadership within a company.
Equally important is the simple distribution of messages.
